Diakonia: Programme Director IHL Resource Centre/Jerusalem

The Diakonia International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Resource Centre was created in 2004 with a mandate to address the ongoing violations of IHL that characterise the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The goal of the Centre is to increase respect for and implementation of international law, and IHL in particular.  http://www.diakonia.se/en/ihl/
Type of employment: Temporary for 2 years (with possibility for extension) this position will be expatriate / international employment.

Work place: Diakonias Country office for Israel/Palestine in Jerusalem
Short work task description
•    Lead the research and advocacy of the IHL Resource Centre
•    Lead the development, management and coordination of the IHL (international humanitarian law) Resource Centre.
•    Represent the IHL Resource Centre externally
•    Contribute to the strategy and development of Diakonias’ global IHL programme
•    Manage personnel within the IHL Resource Centre. 
•    Maintain relationship with donors and secure new and timely funding for the programme
•    Have the budgetary responsibility for operations within the programme.
•    Liaise with Diakonia Head Office and other Diakonia offices  on IHL and relevant advocacy-issues.
•    More than 5 years senior management experience, including human resource leadership and gender equity experience
•    Excellent research record
•    In depth knowledge  of International Humanitarian Law
•    Experience from international development work with a profound understanding of the role of Civil Society in development processes.
•    Extensive legal advocacy experience
•    Knowledge of the Palestine Israeli context
•    University degree in law
•    Excellent spoken and written English. Swedish language is an strong advantage
•    Good computer skills.
•    Ability to communicate in a clear and direct way
