NRC: Jordan INGO Forum Advocacy Coordinator

Position Description:
The JIF was established in 2012 and currently brings together 52 international organizations working in Jordan. The JIF exists primarily to serve the needs of its members to enable them to help people in need and improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Jordan. JIF’s main objectives include information sharing/ communication; coordination; policy development and advocacy; and external representation of the INGO community. 

This position will lead the Advocacy working group within the forum. They will manage group activities and interact with the advocacy and policy representatives of the member organizations. They will have primary ownership over the design and drafting of internal documents, talking points, and templates and will identify and suggest topics for possible collective advocacy on behalf of the Forum. They will also develop a clear Advocacy strategy and campaign for 2017 and work with other members of the forum to rollout this campaign to relevant external partners.

Our Ideal Candidate: 
This position is ideal for an independent thinker who can design and implement creative and novel approaches to advocacy. They are a university graduate with at least 4 years’ relevant work experience in policy analysis, advocacy, strategic planning, communications, research, media, data gathering and/or information management functions for an international organization. 

We are particularly looking for an individual with strong communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to develop and implement advocacy strategies with clear theories of change, particularly related to protection issues and operational space. They are a self-starter, able to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Familiarity with humanitarian principles and response architecture (such as UN-led coordination mechanisms) is also important. Knowledge of the Jordan context or previous experience working in Jordan or the Middle East desirable.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with strong writing and editing skills is essential for success in this role.  Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
