 GVC held on Monday a special ceremony in Ramallah, The Occupied Palestinian Territory, for an official screening of the video documentary “Breeze of Susiya”,  with funding from European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department ECHO, in the framework of  “Humanitarian Support to Contribute to the Protection of Palestinians in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) from Forcible Transfer”, the official screening of ‘’ ECHO funded project.  

 The event opened with a photo exhibition under the patronage his excellency Dr. Rami Hamdallah, The Palestinian Prime minister, who was joined by Governor of Ramallah, Dr. Laila Ghannam, Dr. Ehab Bessasio Minister of Culture, Minister Walid Assaf, The head of Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, David Carden, Head of OCHA office in oPt, Eng. Musa Hadid, Mayor of Ramallah, ECHO’s Representative Fadwa AbedRabou, along with other local and international partners and guests.

In his speech during Dr. Hamdallah said: “I call upon international community to provide international protection to all Palestinians in Jerusalem, Jordan valley and the rest of Area C and to oblige Israel to stop demolitions the destruction of structures, specially the donor funded ones. Israeli occupation forces demolished more than 200 structures, 90 of them Donor Funded”. 

Hamdallah also talked about Palestinian government engagement and responding to the urgent needs of the people in Area C and empower their abilities to resist.

Mrs. Baroud said that “the European commission’s humanitarian aid funding in Palestine is providing emergency support to people affected by eviction and or demotions, provision of basic services, legal assistance and advocacy for the upholding and respect for IHL and human rights in Palestine”.

“ECHO supports Humanitarian advocacy and coordination to ensure the systematic and collective documentation of all incidences related to IHL violations that have a direct humanitarian impact on the population of Area C, East Jerusalem and Gaza”, Mrs. AbedRabou said.

GVC country director in oPt Luca De Filicaia in his speech mentioned that “The event represents also a step further of GVC strategy started three years ago in support of PA to assist the most vulnerable communities and implement its strategy for the development of Area C”.

“With this film our hope is to further increase the knowledge of Area C and its problems and doing so increase social cohesion among Palestinian citizens”, Mr. De Filicaia said.

In addition to that, GVC announced the results of a pilot survey financed by ECHO, which was carried out in four major Palestinians universities, aims to measure the knowledge of the students about Area C.

The survey results recommendations ended to mobilize universities efforts along with line ministries to raise the awareness campaigns and advocacy strategies.
